Rag Rug Christmas Wreath
Tutor: Gina FerrariCourse Code: 4617-05
Summary
Rag rugging is a traditional craft using hessian sacking and discarded clothing and fabric to make rugs for the floor. But it has come a long way in recent years and on this one day course you will learn the various rugging techniques before embarking on a unique and beautiful Christmas decoration for your home. Once you get rag rugging, you will find it hard not to get hooked!
Description
Rag rugging is a very forgiving craft that is simple to learn and hard to forget. The tools are inexpensive and finding fabric is as simple as clearing out your wardrobe or visiting the local charity shop. On this one day course you will be introduced to the two main rag rugging techniques enabling you to make both loopy and shaggy rugs. Using the shaggy method you will then make a beautiful and unique rag rug Christmas wreath for your door that can be used year after year. Full instructions will be given for finishing the wreath should you not complete it in the day. All equipment will be provided at cost and will be yours to take home to use again.
Please bring with you
You will need a small carrier bag of recycled textiles. Any fabrics can be used as long as they are not too thick, but t-shirt material is especially suitable. For a traditional wreath you will need a small amount of yellow/gold/white fabrics, plus some red and a variety of greens. Of course, you can make your wreath in any colour scheme you wish. You will also need a pair of good fabric shears although the tutor will have some available for purchase.
The following items can be purchased from your tutor
Provided on the day will be a latch hook, a gauge for cutting fabric and a hessian template for your wreath (£10.50, payable to the tutor in cash) all of which will be yours to keep.
