Sketching Landscapes and Buildings with Pen and Wash

Summary
This is a three day course that will introduce you to sketching landscapes and buildings in the landscape with pen and watercolour wash. You will be shown how to combine waterproof pen with a watercolour wash to sketch buildings in the landscape including architectural detail, trees, bushes and figures for scale. Using demonstrations and working from photographs supplied by the tutor, you will be shown how each technique can be achieved. Ideal for beginners and students with some knowledge.
Description
This three day course will introduce you to sketching landscapes and buildings in the landscape with pen and watercolour wash. During the course your tutor will show you how to combine waterproof pen with a watercolour wash to sketch buildings in the landscape including architectural detail, trees, bushes and figures for scale. Other techniques will include colour mixing, basic perspective and creating form with light and dark. Using demonstrations and working from photographs supplied by the tutor, you will be shown how each technique can be achieved. Ideal for beginners and students with some knowledge. There may be an opportunity to sketch outside, weather permitting. This course is an ideal stepping stone to other sketching courses run by Missenden School of Creative Arts where you could develop your sketching skills further.
Please bring with you
1 x disposable waterproof black pigment ink fibre tip pen size 0.2, 0.3, or 0.4 (Pilot DR, Edding Profipen or similar)
1 x pad of 'Not' surface watercolour paper 140lb/300gsm 'Not' refers to the surface texture of the paper and is also known as CP (cold pressed) or Bockingford. At least A4 in size (or equivalent)
1 x size 10 or 12 round watercolour brush
1 x size 2 or 4 round watercolour brush
Watercolour paint, either tubes or pans
If bringing tubes then you will need 1 white mixing palette or china plate
I recommend the following basic set of colours: Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Cadmium Yellow Pale
1 x water receptacle (jam jar or plastic container) Tissues, 2B pencil, eraser and pencil sharpener
There may be an opportunity to sketch outside, weather permitting so please bring the following: a stool or folding chair, hat, sun block, layers of clothing such as light coat and/or cardigan

The tutor will have a selection of pens and watercolour tools and materials available to purchase but may not have enough for everyone.
