This course is for all those bobbin lacemakers who want the time to enjoy their lacemaking with a very experienced teacher on hand to help and guide them. It is also for total beginners to Have a Go at Bobbin Lace, Jan will lend you all the equipment you need. Lapsed lace makers will find it a great opportunity to return to the craft.
As a fully qualified teacher, Jan plans an individual course for each lacemaker, discussing the options for each participant before the course starts. Jan teaches traditional bobbin laces:- Torchon, Bedfordshire & Bucks Point and is also keen to help those who want to push the boundaries in contemporary bobbin lace.
Jan encourages all lacemakers to develop confidence and improve their skills in their chosen bobbin lace. She helps students to become independent learners confident in their own lace making skills, knowledge and competence.
There is the opportunity to share specific learning, discuss possible solutions for tackling unknown or new lace techniques, within the group as well as individually. It is also an opportunity to have an enjoyable time lacemaking and to see a wide variety of books and resources on bobbin lace.
Experienced lacemakers need to bring their usual lacemaking equipment. Jan will bring all the equipment and materials for complete beginners as long as this has been discussed with her beforehand. Jan has been making bobbin lace since 1980 when she attended a weekend course at Missenden Abbey. From that moment she was hooked and has been passionate about Bobbin Lace ever since. As a trained teacher she has been teaching bobbin lacemaking since the late 1980’s at Portsmouth College as well as at residential colleges around the country and for the Lace Guild. Jan was awarded a medal of excellence by the Lace Guild for her lacemaking skills for a piece of traditional Bedfordshire lace. Her book Torchon Lacemaking: A step by step guide, was published in 2010, has been reprinted twice and is now available as an ebook. www.tregidgo.com/jan
