Summary

Using Indian block printing with painting fabric, paper, mixed media, found objects, vintage haberdashery and stitch we will create sumptuous tiny books full of texture and surprises. We will be exploring lots of simple techniques which combine to produce beautiful unique art books to treasure.

Description

We will be using a large collection of hand carved wood printing blocks which will form the starting points for making exquisite tiny textile books with embroidery, drawing, and the use of beautiful vintage and Indian embellishments. All the techniques are suitable for beginners and those who like to stitch.

Please bring with you

Apron
Thin gloves
Sewing kit including needles, favourite embroidery threads, detail and paper scissors
Pritt stick
A4 piece of craft felt in a neutral colour
Half a metre of bondaweb
One metre of calico
Silk sari ribbons, snippets of lace and embroidery, beads, sequins
Fine black permanent pen, white, gold and coloured gel pens
A couple of paint brushes
Baby wipes, kitchen roll
Paula will have stuff to share

Paula Watkins has been a textile and mixed media teacher, author, illustrator and exhibiting artist for 30 years. She enjoys using unusual, beautiful and vintage items with simple techniques to create artwork which combine texture, intricate details and surprising combinations of materials. She travels the UK, India and Europe to teach and to lead textile tours. Paula is a treasure hunter and she loves sharing her finds from around the world to help her learners to make stunning artwork.
