Upholstery Restoration
Tutor: Heather Breed - NEW TUTORCourse Code: 3425-05

Summary

This is a project led course with students providing their own upholstery project to work on under the expert eye and with guidance from Heather, an experienced upholsterer and our new upholstery tutor. Experienced upholsterers can work on their own pieces getting guidance from Heather, whilst beginners and those new to upholstery can work on a traditional stitched seat or stool pad and be guided through the processes involved. All students are encouraged to discuss their projects with us and the tutor beforehand so that the right equipment, materials, or even items for upholstery can be prepared in advance.

Description

The projects students will be working on can be varied, and a mix of traditional and modern techniques will be covered. This course is suitable for beginners, intermediates and the more experienced upholsterer, so the group could be a mixture of all levels with a wide range of furniture being worked on. Entire beginners are recommended to discuss any project they'd like to work on in advance of the course but we would suggest a dining chair or stool would be ideal as all the skills necessary to traditionally upholster a seat will be covered and achievable in the time. All the materials (excluding top cover) will be provided and we may well be able to source suitable furniture items beforehand if needed..
As this course will be held at Missenden Abbey, alongside many other summer school courses and subjects, a 3 course lunch is now included for all, as well as tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes in the breaks. A full board residential option is also available.
